Mertesacker - We have to regroup now

Per Mertesacker thinks the international break will give Arsenal the chance to regroup after a busy start to the season.

The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester City and remain unbeaten having played five times in 16 days.

Despite dominating possession in the second half on Sunday, Arsenal couldn't make their territorial advantage count and Mertesacker feels a point was a fair reflection on a physically demanding game.

"Defensively we still played our way and tried to stay solid over 90 minutes"

"They [Leicester] played really well over 90 minutes but we knew before that they were going to fight until the last minute - that's what they did," Mertesacker told Arsenal Player. "In the second half we had more possession but couldn't take advantage from it.

"We didn't create that many chances and were lucky on a few occasions from [their attacks]. Overall we have to take it but obviously we're not happy with it.

"Defensively we still played our way and tried to stay solid over 90 minutes. That was very important, especially in the second half and we didn't give too many chances away but overall the draw is just OK I think.

"We have to take this draw and after three games and five points... it's just OK for us to start like that. We went through to the Champions League group stage and had two away games so five points. I think we have to regroup and come back after the international break."
