Internationals: Nketiah scores twice for England

Eddie Nketiah in action for England

Eddie Nketiah scored twice to help England Under-21s reach the final of the Toulon Tournament on Wednesday evening.

Our teenage striker was given the nod to start over regular forward Tammy Abraham and, after Scotland took an early lead through Michael Johnston’s goal, he more than justified his inclusion.

Having already seen a low shot cannon off the woodwork, Nketiah was once more involved just moments later. Following a neat team move, the 19-year-old rolled the ball across the face of goal for Callum Connolly to convert from close range.

Then, just five minutes after the restart, England struck again. Nketiah collected the ball on the left-hand side before cutting in from the flank, beating two players with a wonderful change of feet and rifling into the far corner.

And then 10 minutes later, our Hale End graduate secured the win by finding a yard of space on the edge of the box and beating Robby McCrorie to keep England on course for a third successive Toulon Tournament triumph.

Aidy Boothroyd’s side will face Mexico in Saturday’s final, after they beat Turkey 3-1 earlier in the day.
