WHAT HAPPENED
Our nine-game winning streak in the Women’s Super League came to an end on Sunday as we were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City.
The hosts had the first sight of goal when Lia Walti’s header inadvertently sent Georgia Stanway through on goal, but Louise Quinn was on hand to stop the danger and recycle possession.
Shortly after Beth Mead combined with Vivianne Miedema on the edge of the box and fizzed a right-footed effort just wide of the far post, before City eventually opened the scoring.
Stanway received the ball inside the area following a fortunate deflection - and the 19-year-old made no mistake in firing past Pauline Peyraud-Magnin.
Mead then came close to an equaliser with a stunning effort from 30 yards, before stinging Ellie Roebuck’s gloves with a left-footed effort from a tight angle.
Following the break, Miedema charged at the City defence and found a yard of space, but she was unable to hit the target from 20 yards out.
The Netherlands international then failed to pull the trigger from a dangerous position inside the penalty area, before City went up the other end and doubled their advantage on the hour mark.
Racing down the right wing, Stanway beat her marker, cut inside, and fired the ball into the bottom corner to double her tally for the afternoon.
The hosts spent much of the remaining half-hour camped in their own half, with Joe Montemurro’s side applying some desperately needed pressure - but there was no way through.

We must now turn our attention to our Continental Tyres Cup clash with Charlton Athletic on Wednesday, December 5.
