Arsenal v BATE Borisov: The Brief

After a difficult evening in Belarus last week, we have it all to do if we are to maintain our previously serene progress in the Europa League.

Before that disappointing defeat at the Borisov Arena, we had won five of our previous six games in the competition and drawn the other, and only conceded in the opening game back in mid-September.

So the result of the first leg, at a venue where we had won 4-2 the previous season, certainly came as a jolt to the senses. Unai Emery will hope it has acted as a wake-up call to his players - but he will have seen enough from that game to give him confidence we can progress.

After all, we created a host of chances - particularly in the first half - and if we do the same again on Thursday evening in front of our own fans, on a much more amenable pitch, we should be quietly optimistic.

But BATE - with former Gunner Alex Hleb among their ranks - will no doubt make life tough for us as they seek to protect their lead. It promises to be a fascinating match-up.

Read on for our comprehensive preview, including Emery's thoughts on the game, the latest team news, stats, and analysis of the opposition.
