HOW IT HAPPENED

We climbed up to second in the Premier League 2 table on Monday as we ran out 2-1 winners over an experienced Leicester City side.

We started on the front foot and were quick to create a number of half chances. Daniel Ballard’s looping header was claimed well by Eldin Jakupovic, before Tyreece John-Jules’ fizzed effort went narrowly over the bar.

We continued to apply pressure on the Foxes, though, and in the 20th minute Tobi Omole opened the scoring from a well worked set-piece. Robbie Burton received the ball on the touchline and delivered a chipped pass into the box, where Omole was waiting to apply the finishing touch.

Moments later Leicester’s Callum Wright checked in on his right foot and fired over the crossbar, before John-Jules found himself through on goal but couldn’t finish past the onrushing Jakupovic.

With 15 minutes remaining of the first half, however, Wright picked up the ball inside the box and delivered a curling right-footed effort into the top corner.

Bukayo Saka then raced through on goal and looked set to restore our lead before the half-time whistle, but his driven effort was kept out by the Foxes goalkeeper.

Following the break, it was the hosts who started stronger. Tolaji Bola was forced into a stunning last-ditch tackle on Josh Knight, before Fousseni Diabate’s dipping free-kick almost snuck past Deyan Iliev.

The Foxes continued to push forward in numbers but we remained a threat on the break - and following a darting run into the box, Bola forced a foul and handed us the opportunity to restore our lead. Burton stepped up from 12 yards and made no mistake.

The home side threatened right up until the final whistle, but our defence stood strong to extend our unbeaten run to six PL2 fixtures.
