WSL: Arsenal v Notts County - Preview

Pedro Martinez Losa

A lot has changed for Arsenal Ladies over the past four months. But for Pedro Martinez Losa, it is Vicky Losada’s transformation into a key player that is testament to how much his team have improved since the start of the season.

The Spain midfielder was given a tough introduction to the Women’s Super League by a combative Notts County side on the opening day of the campaign.

Since then Losada has established herself as a vital figure in Arsenal’s midfield and, after she scored Spain’s first-ever World Cup goal this summer, Losa believes that she has become an even better player during her short spell in north London.

"Notts County are one of the most uncomfortable teams to play against because they are tough, aggressive and organised"

“Vicky was new to the competition at the start of the season,” the manager told Arsenal.com. “But after a few games in the WSL and a fantastic World Cup, she has learnt to play with more intensity, more intelligence in the critical moments, and she has brought those attributes to the team.”

Losada is set to miss Sunday’s return fixture through an injury sustained against Birmingham City, along with Leah Williamson, who limped off during Thursday’s Continental Cup win against Watford.

Chioma Ubogagu was required to salvage a late point back in April and Losa has warned his side to expect a similarly close game this time around.

“Notts County showed that they are very, very tough in the first Women’s Super League game,” he said. “They are, with Liverpool, one of the most uncomfortable teams to play against because they are tough, aggressive and organised.

“They make your game very difficult and play at a very high intensity. We suffered in the first game and this time around will be similar.”
