Under-19s beaten in Dallas Cup final

Flo Balogun in action against Tigres

Our under-19s reached the final of the Dallas Cup - only to be beaten by Mexican side Tigres.

The opening stages proved to be a cagey affair with both sides struggling to forge any clear-cut openings. However, Tigres soon pounced on a mistake to score the only goal of the game.

We were much improved in the second half, with substitutes Mark McGuinness and Bukayo Saka coming close to equalising, but it just wasn’t to be.

Our route to the final kicked off with a 2-1 win over FC Dallas, with Saka scored a superb goal, before we were held to a goalless draw by Mexican outfit Queretaro Gallos Blancos.

Next up we faced a physical Red Bull Brasil side and secured a 1-1 draw thanks to a fine first-time finish from Flo Balogun, booking our spot in the semi-finals against Manchester United.

United came in at the break with a two-goal advantage, but with thanks to an inspired second-half performance from Saka, who scored a brace, we were able to take the game to extra-time and penalties. We ran out 3-1 winners with Arthur Okonkwo saving three from the spot.
