WHAT HAPPENED

Lia Walti scored her first goal in Arsenal colours as we reached the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup with a commanding 2-0 win over West Ham.

The first chance of the afternoon fell to Beth Mead, who timed her run well to meet Katie McCabe’s cross at the back post, but her first-time effort from close range flew wide.

Vivianne Miedema almost broke the deadlock when she spun her marker and produced a speculative chip from inside the box that looped inches over the bar.

Our pressure paid off shortly after when McCabe collected the ball on the edge of the box and skipped past a challenge, before firing past Courtney Brosnan and into the top corner.

The hosts came close to an equaliser on the stroke of half-time when Kenza Dali found space on the wing and delivered an inviting cross into the box, before Julia Simic lost her marker and headed wide from close range.

Moments after the restart, Miedema and Jill Roord combined neatly before our midfielder switched the ball to Mead, who cut inside but saw her powerful effort well saved by Brosnan.

West Ham immediately went on the offensive and came close when Leanne Kieran controlled well inside the box and fired a fierce volley wide from inside the box.

We then doubled our lead in spectacular fashion when Mead’s corner was met on the edge of the box by Walti, who struck the ball on the volley giving Brosnan no chance.

WHAT IT MEANS

Our quest for a 15th Women’s FA Cup continues as we progress into the fifth round of the competition.

We are yet to found out who our opponents are and the draw will take place in the coming weeks.
