Internationals: Iwobi and Ozil score

Mesut Ozil celebrates with Germany

We had three stars in action for their countries on Friday night. Scroll down to find out how they got on.

Alex Iwobi scored a second-half consolation in Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to England at Wembley.

After falling behind to Gary Cahill and Harry Kane’s strikes, our Hale End graduate collected the ball just inside the hosts’ half and clipped a clever pass over the top to Odion Ighalo.

The former Watford striker turned away from Kyle Walker and rattled a fierce shot off the post, before Iwobi pounced to score the Super Eagles’ first ever goal against England.

The 22-year-old played the full 90 minutes for Nigeria, while Danny Welbeck was a 73rd-minute substitute for Kane.

Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil also scored as Germany slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Austria in Klagenfurt.

The 29-year-old collected Jorg Siebenhandl’s scuffed clearance and expertly bent a tidy finish around the Austrian stopper to score his 23rd international goal.

But Germany’s first-half lead wouldn’t last and, after Martin Hinteregger equalised on the hour mark, Alessandro Schopf struck to extend Die Mannschaft’s winless run to five matches.
