Interview

‘I was cracking at the chance to come over!’

Lydia Williams

Lydia Williams’ decision to join us was an easy one.

Not only is she excited to play in the Women’s Super League, alongside some of the best players in the world - but she will also be reunited with our head coach, Joe Montemurro.

“I think Europe is obviously the powerhouse at the moment and the fact that the WSL is coming up and investing a lot, I think it’s where all female footballers want to go,” Williams told Arsenal.com.

“To even be given an opportunity to come over and play with some of the best players in the world, and probably what is becoming the best league in the world, is really exciting. I was cracking at the chance to come over.

“Obviously knowing Joe from Melbourne City days, we could have really honest conversations and it only took one conversation for him to say this is what I can offer you, I think you’d be a good fit here, we like to play out and we have a great style of football.

“I know that when I played under him at Melbourne City it was a lot of fun, so as soon as that opportunity came up in a different club, that was really exciting for me and I was ready for it.”
