U-23s: Arsenal v Manchester City - Preview

Our under-23s are in Premier League 2 action on Monday night, as they take on Manchester City at Emirates Stadium.

THE STORY SO FAR

Our under-23s return to Emirates Stadium for our first home game of the Premier League 2 season on Monday night.

Steve Gatting's side will be looking to build on a dramatic 3-2 win at Derby County last week.

We sit third in the table after our comeback victory, with Liverpool topping the table and Chelsea in second.

THE OPPOSITION

Manchester City make the journey south having shared the spoils with Chelsea in a 0-0 draw last week.

The Citizens sit seventh but could rise as high as second with victory.

Lukas Nmecha - who scored the winner for England at the Under-19 European Championship - is expected to start up front for the visitors.

ONE TO WATCH

Jeff Reine-Adelaide has been in impressive form for Gatting’s side during pre-season.

Jeff carried that form into our first game of the campaign, playing the entirety of our 3-2 win over Derby.

Assuming a more advanced role this campaign, Jeff’s technical quality has created openings for the likes of the prolific Eddie Nketiah.

LAST TIME WE MET

Six goals were shared equally when Manchester City last visited the capital.

Thierry Ambrose struck twice to give the visitors a two-goal lead at Emirates Stadium, before Donyell Malen and Reiss Nelson pulled us level.

Nmecha then restored the Citizens’ lead, before a dramatic finale which saw Carl Jenkinson thumping in a late equaliser.
