We welcomed five young Arsenal supporters to our training ground for an unforgettable day out.
It was organised by Willow, who create special days for seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40.
The five Gooners and their parents, carers or friends, were welcomed to London Colney by our staff, for an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the training facility. They met the players and Arsene Wenger, watched the team train and ate lunch in the players’ restaurant.
One fan, 18-year-old William, suffers with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Despite the progressive condition, he is currently studying sports science at university. He spent some time with Per Mertesacker and Jack Wilshere, where he discussed his passion for football and coaching.
We have a long-standing relationship with Willow, who became an official partner of The Arsenal Foundation in 2013. Since then, The Arsenal Foundation has donated more than £300,000 to Willow, including a recent donation of £180,000 to fund special days for young people with conditions such as motor neurone disease, muscular dystrophy and Huntington’s disease.
Founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson and his wife Megs, Willow is a lasting memorial to their daughter, Anna, who died of cancer aged 31. Anna’s love of life and the enriching experiences of her own Special Days were the charity’s inspiration.
