Internationals: McCabe strikes twice for Ireland

Katie McCabe celebrates for Ireland

Three Gunners were in international action on Friday.

Scroll down to find out how they got on:

Katie McCabe scored twice in a World Cup qualifier for the Republic of Ireland on Friday, who recorded a 4-0 win over Northern Ireland in Group Three. Louise Quinn also played the entirety of the fixture.

Leanne Kiernan opened the scoring inside three minutes with a chipped effort over the keeper, before McCabe doubled their lead with a thumping finish from a tight angle.

Kiernan then struck again following a wonderful passing move, and on the hour mark McCabe joined her on a brace after sending Jacqueline Burns the wrong way from 12 yards.

Elsewhere, Jordan Nobbs played 90 minutes in England’s 3-0 win over Wales in Group One, as they secured automatic qualification for the 2019 World Cup.

Lionesses celebrate

The two sides came into this fixture knowing that a win would guarantee their qualification to the tournament - and England stepped up to the occasion, scoring three second-half goals in the space of 12 minutes.

Toni Duggan broke the deadlock with a cool finish from close-range, before Jill Scott leapt high inside the box to head the ball past Laura O’Sullivan.

And in the 69th minute, Nikita Parris rounded off the scoring with a tap-in.

Beth Mead and Leah Williamson were unused, but could feature against Kazakhstan on Tuesday, September 4.
