Revealed: How we’ve increased our set-piece threat

Lotte Wubben-Moy

With four goals from set-pieces this season, we’re fast becoming a threat from all angles under Jonas Eidevall.

Lotte Wubben-Moy notched our latest from a corner routine during our 3-0 victory over Everton on Sunday - and now our academy graduate is hungry for more.

“We want to score goals, we want to score lots of them, and there are so many different ways that we can do that,” Lotte told Arsenal.com.

“I’m obviously a centre back and I’m naturally not going to score many goals, so when I do get the chance to get forward and someone like Katie is standing over a set-piece, I want to contribute and I’m confident that I can do that.

“That’s how I scored my goal at the weekend and I scored a similar one against United last season. Katie delivered into the penalty area and I was waiting at the back post! I love those flat balls from Katie!

“One of the things that’s helped us score more of those goals is having more staff at the training ground. It’s massive and it’s always such a nice feeling to score a goal from a routine or specific tactic that you’ve been working on.

“When you can feel the energy not just from your team-mates but the staff too, it helps so much and I think it shows the steps that we’re taking to go forwards.”

But how has Lotte’s aerial threat developed over the years? And how did she transfer it from youth football to senior football?

“I was always physically and aerially dominant as a youth player and that’s something I want to keep developing now,” he said. “I’d like to think of myself as a role model for the young players coming through and a big part of making that step up is believing in your ability.

“If you’ve got a standout trait or characteristic, you need to own it! You need to be realistic in your motivations and the way you see yourself compared to other players.

“I’m still young but I feel like because of the confidence I have in my ability, I’ve been able to step up. I’ve always known that I’ve had quite a physical presence, so in my head I told myself that I need to own it and show what I can do. That’s the coolest thing you can do as a young player and I saw it in the likes in Leah.”
