HOW IT HAPPENED

Sam Greenwood scored a first-half brace as our under-18s ran out 5-1 winners over Norwich City on Saturday.

Flo Balogun started brightly and continually looked to charge at the Canaries defence, before eventually forcing a foul on the edge of the box. Greenwood stepped up to take the resulting free-kick and found the top left corner with a beautiful curling effort.

The home side then went on to equalise through Atli Barkarson, who pounced on a loose ball inside the box and fired into an empty net, but less than a minute before the break, we restored our lead.

Ben Cottrell’s dangerous corner delivery was cleared off the line, before Greenwood latched on to the clearance and slammed home for his second goal of the afternoon.

Following a free-flowing attacking move Harrison Clark furthered our advantage with a thumping finish into the roof of the net - and in the 53rd minute Balogun made it four.

The pacey forward turned his marker inside the box with a fine piece of improvised skill, before drilling his right-footed effort into the bottom left corner.

Louis Lomas’ handball offered Matt Smith the opportunity to mark his name on the scoresheet, but Billy Johnson produced a diving save to deny our captain from 12 yards.

Unfazed by his miss, Smith would go on to be architect for our final goal of the afternoon as he picked out Trae Coyle inside the box, who found the back of the net with a powerful near-post effort.
