Szczesny on pre-season and new signings

Wojciech Szczesny says that Arsenal’s summer transfer business has given the whole squad a lift ahead of the new season.

The Gunners have signed the exciting Chile international Alexis Sanchez and French right back Mathieu Debuchy so far.

Having won the FA Cup last term, Szczesny believes the new additions will bolster a squad already high on confidence.

“It's good,” he told Arsenal.com. “Obviously you want to add more strength to your team and adding that little bit more quality to what we had last year is only going to make us stronger. Hopefully that will bring better results this season.

“Yeah, [the players all] talk about it. You look on Sky Sports News and you see who's going to sign for us and talk about it in the dressing room - that goes on for a couple of months.

“It's always good when you hear about big names and possible signings, and hopefully there's one or two more to come.”

Szczesny had a quiet afternoon at Boreham Wood on Saturday, but says the match was a useful workout for the team.

“We've only been training for a couple of weeks and you could tell that the Boreham Wood players were really fresh and we found it hard, especially at the start,” he said.

“It was only at the end where we moved the ball about and Boreham Wood players ran after it that we created some space and some chances.

“Results don't matter at this point, it wouldn't have made a difference if we had won this game six or seven nil. It's a good 2-0 win and everyone got a good run-out.”
