'I was in the right place at the right time'

Alexandre Lacazette may take most of the plaudits after scoring twice in Monday night’s 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion - but the result could have been different were it not for a crucial Nacho Monreal intervention.

Jay Rodriguez had looked set to equalise for the visitors just before half-time, but Montreal raced back before clearing the ball from underneath his own crossbar.

After the match, our defender spoke to the media - and here’s what he said:

on how hard we had to work for the win…

We knew it was going to be a hard game but I think we played better than them, we scored two goals and in every moment we had the control. They only had one chance in the first half but I was so lucky to be in the right position at the right moment. After that, we were better than them. It was hard but we played a good game.

on his clearance…

It wasn’t only me. I think all the players are in a good moment, we had a good performance against Chelsea in a difficult game, so after we got one point against Chelsea we needed to get the three points today, to keep in the top positions. We have to continue playing like that. Now we play in the Europa League, after that it’s Brighton, so we are looking forward to winning the next two games.

on having firepower up front…

Obviously every single game we try to get a clean sheet. It’s not easy because in the Premier League, anybody can score in any moment. But in the last games we’ve had clean sheets, which means that all the team are working really hard defensively. We have to keep doing that.
