Montemurro - Mead’s growing with every game

Beth Mead

Beth Mead has found her goalscoring touch at the perfect stage of the season.

The England international struck twice in our 5-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday, meaning she’s now scored five goals in her last six games for club and country.

We spoke to Joe Montemurro about Mead after the final whistle - and this is what he said:

on Mead’s goalscoring form...

Beth’s growing with every game and obviously she’s very good in the final moment of attacking situations. She’s getting in some very dangerous positions and her assists have also been very important, so she’s a major part of the team in all aspects.

on whether she meant her chipped goal…

Absolutely not!

on the overall performance…

It was a very professional performance in difficult conditions, but in the end our positioning and speed of play was good and that allowed us to break down their block.

on what pleased him most…

I think we kept playing our style and playing with our rhythm. It was very important that we stuck to our patterns, so from a position perspective we were able to break them down. We played our style under difficult conditions.

on the importance of maintaining a positive goal difference…

It’s incredibly important. If we’re level on points come the end of the season we should be able to get over the line with our goal difference. We’ve always thought of it as an extra point. We always want to score goals with the way we play!
