Pedro Martinez Losa has hailed his young players after Arsenal Ladies beat Millwall 7-0 in the FA Women’s Cup.

The Gunners were without experienced forwards Kelly Smith and Rachel Yankey but 21-year-old Danielle Carter scored a hat-trick and teenager Carla Humphrey added another as the Gunners secured a place in the quarter-finals.

Development players Evie Clarke, Alice Hassall and Taome Oliver were also in the squad which included four new signings, and Losa was impressed with his side’s strength in depth.

"You win trophies with a squad, not just a team of 11 players"

“Danielle could have scored a few more goals,” the manager told Arsenal.com. “She was fantastic all over the pitch so we have a young player who is developing well and we are very happy with her.

“Carla was also phenomenal. They all did a good job and we still have more options like Leah Williamson on the bench, and Rachel Yankey and Kelly Smith who were not in the squad.

“We gave opportunities to players, they responded very well and having a big squad with lots of energy will be very important for us. You win trophies with a squad, not just a team of 11 players.

“All of our players are now in the position to compete and that’s what I’m trying to do, keep all of the players [available] so that we have the greatest chance of being successful this season.”
