Centre of Excellence given elite licence

Ladies expand associate programme

Arsenal Ladies’ Centre of Excellence has become the first in London to be awarded an FA Regional Talent Club Tier One license.

The advanced license, which comes into effect next season, will help the Ladies continue their long history of developing young players for the club’s first team and England.

Arsenal Ladies’ Technical Director Tessa Payne said: “It’s fantastic news for the Arsenal Ladies to have secured a new FA Regional Talent Club Licence. Being the only Tier One club in London will enable us to lead the way in providing additional technical, physical, social and psychological support services for our young players, and to continue to attract the best playing and coaching talent to the club.

"I hope that this will allow us to continue the tradition of producing young female players who progress through the talent pathway to play for both the Arsenal Ladies first team and England.”

Regional Talent Clubs will replace the Centre of Excellence system for young players from 2016/17. The new programme will support the identification and development of young players, improving the pathway to the senior game for those with elite potential. As part of the new system, girls’ under-10 and under-12 teams will be able to compete in mixed leagues with boys’ teams for the first time.
