Interview

‘I love how the fans rallied around Laca’

Alex Lacazette

Alex Lacazette had a mixed afternoon on his last outing at Emirates Stadium.

The France international scored after just seven minutes to set us on our way to three points, but could have increased his tally throughout the course of the game.

Laurent Koscielny was on the bench when Lacazette missed a clear-cut opportunity from six yards, and was pleased to hear such a positive reaction from the fans inside the Emirates.

“Offensively, it was good to see Micki and Laca score,” our captain told the official matchday programme. “There is so much competition for places in our team, in every position, that we all benefit from pushing each other to be better all the time.

“I also liked how the whole stadium rallied around Laca after he missed a big chance in the first half. Supporting him like you did was very important to him and the team. We have to show solidarity and unity all the time.

“He was gutted that he missed but your support and that from the boys on the pitch too helped him to get over it and refocus quickly. I told him after the game that he could have had a hat-trick. He will be hungry to make amend for the miss tonight so hopefully, he will get a hat-trick against Bournemouth.

“I also thought Bernd was excellent in goal, once again,” Koscielny added. “From the first day he arrived, I had a feeling he would be great for us.

“He has adapted so well and he is getting better and better. His save from Redmond at 0-0 was outstanding and changed the dynamic of the game. Big keepers make the right saves at the right time and he has saved us many times already this season.”
