Watford v Arsenal: The Brief

Following defeat to Reading in our last Continental Tyres Cup game, we’ll be looking to carry our good league form into our upcoming match against Watford on Thursday.

THE OPPOSITION

Having earned just one point from their opening five Women’s Super League 2 games this season, Watford lie at the foot of the table.

They have, however, had better results in the Continental Cup, with one win and a loss in their opening two games, having beaten Millwall Lionesses, but fallen to defeat against Reading.

ONE TO WATCH

Leah Williamson received her first call-up to the England senior team earlier this week

Having received her first call-up to the senior England side earlier in the week, Leah Williamson will have the opportunity to show why she is so highly rated.

The central midfielder has been with us since 2006, and has represented England at various age levels in the past five years, but her recent performances have warranted a call from Mo Marley.

Williamson has previous against the Hornets, having netted against them in a 3-0 win in the same competition the last time we faced them two years ago.

LAST TIME WE MET

Williamson, Rachel Yankey and Chloe Kelly were on the scoresheet in the first half at Meadow Park.

We raced into the lead early on through goals from Williamson and Kelly, while Yankey added a third shortly before the half-time break to wrap up the scoring.

Following the break, Sari van Veenendaal denied Stacie Donnelly to maintain our clean sheet.
