Arsenal v Everton: The Brief

Alex Scott leads us out against Everton

After booking our place in the SSE Women’s FA Cup quarter-final with a win over Millwall Lionesses last weekend, we’re back in Women’s Super League action on Friday evening when we host Everton at Meadow Park.

THE OPPOSITION

The Toffees are eighth in the table, having only won one of their three WSL games since the turn of the year.

However, since their 2-1 win over Reading, they also secured their place in the last eight of the SSE Women’s FA Cup after hitting six goals past Lewes at the Dripping Pan last weekend.

Former Gunner Chloe Kelly was on target in that game and has impressed since making her move to Merseyside permanent in January, scoring eight times in 14 games.

ONE TO WATCH

After months on the sidelines, Kim Little made her return from injury for the final 16 minutes of last Sunday’s 1-0 win over Millwall.

The Scotland international had ruptured her anterior cruciate knee ligament back in May last year and missed the 2017 European Championship because of it.

But now Little will be desperate to make up for lost time. The goalscoring midfielder has netted 109 times in 148 games for us, and will be looking to make an impact as we approach our season run-in.

LAST TIME WE MET

We last faced Everton back in October, when Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead scored as we claimed all three points at the Select Security Stadium.

Miedema gave us the lead after she shuffled the ball back and forth inside the area before powering a fierce strike past Lizzie Durack with the help of the crossbar.

And after a series of good saves by the goalkeeper, we finally found our way past her once more, with Mead confounding Durack with a lobbed effort from distance.
