Losa - I'm really pleased for Beth

Following a mixed start to the season, Pedro Martinez Losa’s side bounced back in style against London Bees on Thursday, winning 7-0 at Meadow Park.

The manager’s decision to give Beth Mead her first start of the season was vindicated, with the striker netting two goals, and following the game, Losa spoke with Arsenal.com.

This is what he said:

on the performance…

Well I think we have to first respect the opponent. We needed a good game where we could score goals and not concede and have confidence and I think the players deserve a lot of respect and deserve the support of the fans, the support of the club. Hopefully after a couple of tough weeks we can come back to normal and put in good performances that I hope the fans can be pleased with as we score a lot of goals, but I think we can still do better than today.

on taking the Continental Tyres Cup seriously…

Well we want to win every trophy, we put out a strong team because some players needed a rest. We made some subs at half-time to not overload players, which is something we have to consider all the time, so we wanted to compete obviously but I think any team we can put on the pitch is strong because we have players of quality.

on Beth Mead…

I’m very pleased for her because she obviously worked so hard and it was good to see her score because I think she’s capable of scoring a lot of goals. In training she’s doing it very well and she deserved to have a good day.

on getting their first clean sheet of the season…

It was one of our objectives today, to keep a clean sheet and obviously a couple of tactical ideas we wanted to see on the pitch. I think we did some things well and some things that we can improve on, but we are pleased with the performance.

on the Everton fixture…

I think at the moment we have to take a look after the international break at which players are coming back and in two weeks we will be prepared for Everton, but of course we want to play as soon as possible again to try to win as many games as possible and see if we can be at the top of the table soon.
