Hector Bellerin has thanked the first-team staff for the guidance he's received since the start of the campaign.

The Spanish defender made his full debut in the Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund last week after impressing during pre-season and for the under-21s last term.

Bellerin is relishing the opportunity to get some further minutes under his belt when Arsenal take on Southampton in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

"I'm delighted because I'm getting my chances," he told the official matchday programme.

"I've been training with the first team since the beginning of the season so obviously the only thing I can say is thanks to the players and the coaches.

"They are giving me the chance and have faith in me so that's what I'm going to give back. I'm looking forward to playing more games and I'm really happy with the way this season has gone so far."

Arsene Wenger is likely to make changes to his side for the visit of Ronald Koeman's in-form Saints and Bellerin says the prospect of facing Premier League opposition will motivate the young players.

"A team like Southampton will be trying to win this competition," said Bellerin. "It's against a Premier League team so it's going to be hard for us but at the same time it will give us the opportunity to show we can play against a team like Southampton, it will show we can play at that level.

"Hopefully the boss will give a chance to a few of the youngsters and we can play a big game."
