‘We’re in a good place... up and ready to go’

Montemurro

Despite facing our first defeat of the season last Sunday, spirits are high ahead of our Champions League last-16 clash with Slavia Prague.

We’ll be going into Wednesday night’s game with just two days of European preparation under our belts, but Joe Montemurro says that his side are raring to go.

Read on to find out what our head coach said to the press at Eden Arena:

on what he’s expecting…

They’re a very, very good team. They’ve won their league and they’re doing very well in the league so far, so we’re expecting a difficult challenge.

on their style of play…

They play a 4-3-3 similar to us, and they play with two holding midfielders. Their wingers stay very wide so I guess they’re quite an open team. They will defend quite deep, but we’ll try to transition and be very careful when we’ve got the ball.

on how much they’ve been able to prepare since Sunday…

Not much at all. It’s been more about the information, rather than physical work. They’re still in recovery mode 48 hours after a tough game on Sunday, but I think they’re currently in a good place mentally. The disappointment of Sunday’s result is important to get the players up and ready to go, and it’s a great opportunity because they have to chance to do that so quickly.

on wanting to take another big away win back to Meadow Park…

That’s the ultimate scenario, but it’s a different team to Fiorentina and a different challenge. We need to make sure we come away with something at least, and then we can go to Meadow Park and finish the job. You have to respect every team and make sure you go out there and play your game.

on whether this is his first time in Prague…

Yeah, it’s my first time over here. It’s a beautiful city and the stadium looks immaculate. It’s a very historical club so we’re looking forward to tomorrow night.
