'I want to get to top of Europe here'

Vivianne Miedema became the latest addition to Pedro Martinez Losa's squad when her signing was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

The Dutch forward joins international colleagues Sari van Veenendaal, Dominique Janssen and Danielle van de Donk and will link up with the group ahead of the new Women's Super League season.

Here's what Vivianne had to say in her first interview with Arsenal Player:

on how it feels to be an Arsenal player…
I’m really excited. I just felt I was ready for a new chapter in my career and I’m really happy it’s going to be here at Arsenal.

on continuing to develop her reputation…
Of course, I had three good years in Germany as well. I felt like I became a good player there and I hope to get even better here and score more goals.

on being just 20 with a lot of potential to get even better…
I’m still young, but what I said already, I had three amazing years in Germany. We became champions twice and I’m just looking for a next step and that’s going to be with Arsenal. I hope to grow, for sure, but I also hope to win a lot of prizes here and get to the top of Europe again with Arsenal.

on choosing to leave Bayern Munich for Arsenal…
What I said already, I had three amazing years in Germany but I just felt like I was ready for something new. I wanted to see another league, I wanted to explore more things and not just stay in Germany my whole career. I think this is a good point for me to try something new.

on the facilities at London Colney…
It’s amazing. You can’t even compare it to what we have at Bayern right now. I think everything is here, everything you need to be an amazing player, you have it right here. That was a big thing in my step as well.

on English football…
The English league has been growing and been getting better the last couple of years. It’s still growing I feel, and that’s why it’s a good opportunity or me to go here right now. The German league is of course, I think at the moment, the strongest competition. But I really think England is going to get up there and maybe even take over Germany, so I hope it’s going to get there soon.

on why she chose Arsenal and not any other English club…
I just had a great feeling when I came here. Of course I have been visiting some more clubs and needed some time to think about what I wanted. I just had a great feeling here, it just felt familiar and I also heard from the other Dutch girls [Sari van Veenendaal, Dominique Janssen and Danielle van de Donk] that they really enjoy it here. So everything together, I just thought it was going to be my choice.

on looking ahead to her first season now - although the Euros are first…
Of course the Euros are first, that’s going to be an amazing experience and I’m only going to get better from that. Then I can’t wait to start here, to start pre-season and start the new season. I’m really excited for it.
