Ox - Don’t rest, just keep striving

Oxlade-Chamberlain and Holding

He's played nearly 200 Arsenal games, won the Emirates FA Cup three times and scored for England at the Maracana, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is taking nothing for granted.

The 23-year-old has been playing senior football since he was 16 - when he came off the bench in Southampton’s win over Huddersfield Town - and even though he is now an established figure in our squad, he is still striving to improve every season.

“Don’t ever rest on your laurels because, if you don’t keep on progressing with the league, you could get left behind,” he told Arsenal Player. “There’s not one game you can do that in.

“You can come up against a team in the relegation zone at the Emirates now, but you know it’s going to be tough. There’s obviously a lot more money in it now with the teams having more money to buy really good players. It makes it much harder and that’s the biggest [change] I’ve seen.

“You have to keep improving yourself because every year it gets more competitive and gets more physically and technically demanding as well. I’d say just don’t rest on your laurels, keep developing and make sure that you keep striving to improve yourself.”
