U-23s: Arsenal v Bayern Munich - The Brief

THE STORY SO FAR

Our under-23s are back in Premier League International Cup action this Tuesday, as we host Bayern Munich at Meadow Park.

We lead Group E after two games, having beaten Porto 1-0 in our opening tie, while sharing the points with Reading in a 0-0 draw.

We head into Tuesday evening’s match off the back of a 4-0 win against Manchester United in Premier League 2, after Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Vlad Dragomir and Eddie Nketiah were all on target, with the latter netting a brace.

THE OPPOSITION

After winning their opening game 1-0 at Reading, Bayern will be looking to leapfrog us and take advantage of their game in hand.

Although the visitors endured some rocky form earlier on in the season, they travel to north London on a six-match winning streak, and haven’t been defeated in 10.

Academy products from the current German champions include David Alaba, Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller.

ONE TO WATCH

With five goals so far this season in all competitions after breaking through to our under-23 side, Vlad Dragomir is a player that fans will want to keep their eye on.

The Romanian has proven his versatility by playing in a variety of positions for Steve Gatting’s side, filling in at central midfield, up front and as a wing-back.

In our previous fixture against United, Dragomir scored the second goal, ghosting in to meet Reiss Nelson’s ball and apply the finishing touch.

LAST TIME WE MET

We shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Bayern the last time we met, back in 2015 in the UEFA Youth League.

Although the hosts opened the scoring through Fabian Benko after just 11 minutes, Ismael Bennacer’s equaliser provided us with a point.

Many members of our current squad featured in the contest, including Jordi Osei-Tutu, Ben Sheaf and Reiss Nelson.
