‘It’s growth… we have to keep building’

Our fortunes have improved recently, but Joe Montemurro knows there’s still a long way to go for us to reach our potential.

We were second best to Chelsea in Saturday’s SSE Women’s FA Cup final, and our manager says there is plenty of room for improvement after our performance at Wembley.

“They were better, it’s as simple as that,” he told Arsenal Player. “They scored three, we scored one. They were the better team.

“We really believed we could unlock them today. Some things went to plan, some things didn’t, they’ve just got some individual players who hurt us.

“The reality is that you score, you start to feel as if you can get back into the game. We opened up a bit more and then we made an error, she got in and it’s all over. It was a difficult game but I’m proud of the girls. They gave me everything and that’s all I can ask for.

“It’s all part of growth. That’s what I’m here for, to give this side some growth and start challenging at the top with the best teams. I think we’ve achieved that this year. We’re going to keep going, we’re going to keep building so that we can continue to do that.”
