Arsenal v Sporting CP: The Brief

The equation heading into Matchday Four of the Europa League is relatively simple - and the rewards undeniably ample.

Should we beat Sporting CP and Vorskla fail to defeat Qarabag on Thursday evening, we will seal top spot in Group E with two games to spare.

That will allow Unai Emery the freedom to rotate his squad en masse for our remaining two fixtures of the group stage, both played during an increasingly busy time in an increasingly tense battle at the top of the Premier League.

Our head coach will be well aware of the rewards, and having dispatched Sporting at the Jose Alvalade Stadium two weeks ago he will be confident of his side holding up their end of the bargain.

But just as important to him will be extending an unbeaten run that stretches back to late August, spanning 14 games, while continuing the progress we have made in that time.

Read on for a comprehensive match preview, Emery's thoughts on the game, the latest team news, stats, and analysis of the opposition.
