SUMMARY

Our under-23s completed a turnaround in the final half hour to win 3-2 against Derby at St. George’s Park.

After an hour of Monday night’s fixture, Steve Gatting’s side trailed 2-0 courtesy of goals from Kellan Gordon and Emil Jakobsen.

Reiss Nelson then scored the first of a five-minute brace, volleying home from close range.

Nelson added an impressive solo goal, curling into the far side of goal via the post, before Eddie Nketiah provided the winning strike just 10 minutes from the final whistle.

SETTING THE SCENE

Gatting continued with the 3-4-2-1 system, with Ryan Huddart lining up in goal.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Cohen Bramall lined up with captain Krystian Bielik in the back three, with Nelson and Kieran Gibbs as wing-backs.

Francis Coquelin partnered Jack Wilshere in central midfield, with Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Joe Willock in advanced roles.

Nketiah spearheaded our attack.

FIRST HALF

We endured a tough start at St. George’s Park, and soon found themselves a goal down.

Gordon sent the ball past Huddart to give the Rams the lead after just 25 minutes.

The hosts remained in front until the break despite our best attempts at cancelling out the opener.

SECOND HALF

Emil Jakobsen extended Derby’s lead after the interval, but we soon sparked a revival.

Nelson hit back on the hour mark, timing his run well before volleying past Josh Barnes in the Rams’ goal.

The midfielder was at it again just moments later, picking up the ball on the left and darting infield before curling the ball into the net with the help of the far post.

The momentum had shifted by now and Nketiah ensured that victory was to be ours when he darted away from Ethan Wassall before slotting past Barnes.
