Chambers - What Arteta said to us before the game

Chambers

It was an afternoon to remember for Calum Chambers.

Our defender made his 100th appearance during Saturday's Premier League clash at Everton, and helped us keep our first clean sheet since October's win over Bournemouth.

Chambers spoke to the media after the game. This is what he said:

on 100 Arsenal appearances...

It's always nice to get a clean sheet and my 100th appearance is a proud moment for me. I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get the win but there's a lot of good to take from that game. I think there's also things we can improve on but it's a good building block for us.

on whether it was a fair result...

Yeah I believe so. We created chances and defended well as a team as well. I'm a bit gutted we didn't come away with the win but I'll take a clean sheet.

on how he feels about Mikel Arteta's appointment...

Excited. I think everyone's excited. Freddie's been really good. He's been getting his messages across. Mikel came yesterday and gave us a talk before the game so everyone's really excited to work with him.

on what Arteta said...

He just wanted us to be brave, take responsibility and work hard for each other. Those were the messages from him and I feel we did that today. Now there's more. We'll be at the training ground and there's a lot more we can work on with his philosophy and the things he wants to bring to the team. I'm sure we'll be working hard on that.

on whether it's important Arteta already knows the club...

For sure, yeah. I was here when he was here as well. He was an intelligent player so I'm sure we're going to be working hard on his philosophy and his way of playing this week.

on the last few days...

It's been different but that's football. You've got to adapt to it, you've got to move on quickly and I feel like that's what we did. We prepared for this game like normal with Freddie. Then Mikel came in yesterday, said some words and then said more today before the game today. We're just really excited to start working with him.

on whether the words made an impact...

Yeah I believe the team that went out today just put in 100 per cent effort. It was a younger team today and I'm really pleased for the younger boys who played. They've been working unbelievably hard, so I think it's a performance that everyone can be proud of. There's things we can work on but it's a promising sign.

on whether it feels like a new era...

I like to think so. It's a promising group. We've just got to work hard, build on our performance, work on things at the training ground and keep going.
