Losa - The title race is so tight now

Pedro Martinez Losa says Arsenal Ladies’ win against Birmingham City heaps more pressure on league-leaders Chelsea.

The Gunners moved back up to second in the Women’s Super League after Chioma Ubogagu’s second-half winner secured a convincing victory at the Autotech Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal are now just two points behind their London rivals and Losa believes the Blues’ 4-0 defeat against Sunderland has opened up the title race.

"We’re hoping we can keep winning so we can be in the first position as soon as possible"

“It will be interesting to see more teams like Notts County, Manchester City and Liverpool challenging for the title,” he said. “We’re putting pressure on Chelsea now who have a difficult game against Manchester City, and they also have to play in the FA Cup.

“It’s going to be difficult for us, it’s going to be difficult for them, but we’re hoping we can keep winning so we can be in the first position as soon as possible.”

Vicky Losada limped off during Sunday’s win but Losa is confident that Arsenal have enough strength in depth to maintain momentum ahead of this week's matches against Watford and Notts County.

“I don’t like to lose players and Vicky got injured,” he said. “We had to take her off and we have also lost Kelly Smith because of a tackle, so we are worried about that, but I am sure we have enough talent in our squad to continue to put pressure on Chelsea and also be competitive in the Continental Cup.”

Arsenal Ladies' next home match is on Sunday, July 26 against Notts County. Kick-off isn at 2pm and you can buy your discounted online tickets here
