Danny Welbeck scored a brace to give England a 2-0 win in their opening European Championship qualifier against Switzerland. Arsenal's new forward converted a sweeping move to open the scoring on 58 minutes before slotting home his second in stoppage time. Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere was also involved, playing 73 minutes before being replaced by James Milner.

Spain 5-1 Macedonia, Monday, September 8
Santi Cazorla was an unused substitute as Spain cruised to a comfortable win at home to Macedonia. Sergio Ramos, Paco Alcacer and Sergio Busquets struck in the first half before David Silva and Pedro rounded off a big win for the European champions.

Wojciech Szczesny completed 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet as Poland began their European Championship qualifying campaign with an emphatic 7-0 victory away to Gibraltar. Robert Lewandowski netted four while a Kamil Grosicki brace and a Lukas Szukala goal completed the scoring for the visitors.

Serbia 1-1 France, Sunday, September 7
Mathieu Debuchy was an unused substitute as France drew 1-1 with Serbia in Belgrade. Paul Pogba gave Les Bleus an early lead but Aleksander Kolarov equalised with 10 minutes remaining.

Czech Republic 2-1 Holland, Tuesday, September 9
Tomas Rosicky played a full part as Czech Republic beat the Netherlands 2-1 in Prague. Borek Dockal sent the Czechs ahead in the 22nd minute before Stefan de Vrij levelled 10 minutes into the second half. But substitute Vaclav Pilar popped up with the winner in the last minute to give the hosts all three points.

Germany 2-1 Scotland, Sunday, September 7
Lukas Podolski played the final six minutes as world champions Germany kicked off their European Championship qualifying campaign with a narrow win over Scotland. Thomas Muller's header gave the home side a first-half lead before Scotland hit back in the second half when Ikechi Anya slotted past Manuel Neuer. But moments later, Muller was on hand to slam home from close range to secure three points for Joachim Low's team.

David Ospina came through 90 minutes for Colombia as they were narrowly beaten by Brazil after Neymar's 83rd-minute winner in Miami

Aaron Ramsey played 90 minutes before being replaced in stoppage time of Wales' 2-1 victory against Andorra. Ildefons Lima's penalty gave the home side a surprise lead on six minutes but Gareth Bale's brace ensured Chris Coleman's side began their qualifying campaign with a win.

Chile 1-0 Haiti, Tuesday, September 9
Alexis Sanchez played 86 minutes as Chile recorded a narrow win over Haiti in Florida. Juan Delgado scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute.

France Under-21s 1-1 Iceland Under-21s, Monday, September 8 
Yaya Sanogo scored his third international goal in two games but it wasn't enough to secure France Under-21s victory at home to Iceland after Emillson's 80th-minute goal snatched a point for the visitors.
