U-21 Euros: In-form Bielik scores again

Bielik

Three of our stars have been called up by their countries for the Under-21 European Championship. Read on to find out how they fared.

Krystian Bielik maintained his fine form on Wednesday night as he scored the winner in Poland’s 1-0 victory over Italy.

Tasked with playing in a three-man midfield, Bielik opened the scoring with an instinctive strike into the bottom corner, before delivering an assured defensive performance that helped his side to a valuable clean sheet.

The 21-year-old has now scored four goals in his last six appearances for club and country.

Elsewhere, Reiss Nelson and Matteo Guendouzi were unused substitutes in France’s dramatic 2-1 win over England on Tuesday night.

Phil Foden opened the scoring for the Young Lions with a goal worthy of winning any game - but it wasn’t to be, as France scored twice late on following a red card to Hamza Choudhury.

Nanitamo Ikone equalised with less than a minute remaining of normal time, before Aaron Wan-Bissaka inadvertently bundled the ball into his own net with the last kick of the game.
