Three things we noticed: Rapids 0-3 Arsenal

MARTINELLI PROMISE

Gabriel Martinelli is the most recent addition to our squad and he took his first opportunity to shine.

Lively from the off, the Brazilian fired an early shot wide and regularly pulled defenders this way and that with his footwork. He almost scored in the first half - a low sidefoot rolling just wide - but he did score with his next chance. It came from a Dominic Thompson cross and was finished inventively, Martinelli sticking out a shoulder to divert the ball into the net.

Almost as impressive was his work rate; more than once Martinelli raced back to dispossess opponents and turn defence into attack. This was a promising start.

SAKA SPEED

We saw glimpses of Bukayo Saka's potential last season when he was handed first-team debuts in the Europa League, Premier League and Emirates FA Cup in the space of six weeks, and he was quickly up to speed here. Speed being the operative word.

Saka's pace is a huge weapon and we saw it for our first goal when a lightning burst inside the full back was picked out by Eddie Nketiah's precise through-ball. Saka showed composure with his finish too, clipping the ball over the keeper with just enough force to take it over the line.

A couple of dashing runs caught the eye in the second half too - it will be intriguing to see what Saka can deliver in the International Champions Cup.

ARSENAL AMERICA

Our fans turned out in force for the opening game of our US tour, with Dick's Sporting Goods Park packed to the rafters.

A number of youngsters enhanced their reputations but it was those with established reputations who got the biggest ovation. Aubameyang, Lacazette and Ozil delighted the fans when they limbered up on the touchline, Auba high-fiving those closest to the action. That anticipation built to a crescendo when the triumvirate came on together late in the game.

There would have been an even bigger roar before the final whistle, but Laca and Auba uncharacteristically missed golden chances.
