Interview

'To be among so many legends is incredible'

Wednesday night’s victory against London Bees was an unforgettable occasion for Jen Beattie as she made her 100th appearance for the club.

Although her night was cut short due to an injury, we secured our place in the knockout stages of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup after putting nine goals past our opponents.

We spoke to the defender after the match and this is what she said:

on how it feels to make 100 Arsenal appearances…

It’s an honour to do it for such an unbelievable club like Arsenal. To be among so many club legends and incredible names at this club is an incredible feeling.

on reaching the milestone over two spells at the club…

It definitely crept up on me! I hadn’t been thinking about it all. Having come back in the summer I just wanted to enjoy playing football and find my place in the team again, I wasn’t thinking about numbers or appearances or anything like that. The squad is bigger than the individual and I’m so happy to be part of an amazing squad.

on her standout memory at the club…

Making your debut is always a big thing and something you don’t forget. Getting a hat-trick against Barcelona in the Champions League wasn’t too bad either! Lifting my first trophy at senior level was huge for me too. There’s so many amazing memories I’ve got here, but it’s the future I’m looking forward to most.

on going off injured…

Yeah, it wasn’t the way I wanted to mark tonight’s game! I’m not too sure what it is just yet, as it’s probably too soon to tell. But it’s obviously something in my calf. I just felt it suddenly seize up, so hopefully if it is a tear, it’s a very small one.
