Bellerin – Why I’m so pleased for Huddersfield

Our biggest connection with Huddersfield Town is Herbert Chapman, who managed both sides in the 20th century - but Hector Bellerin has a more recent link with the Terriers.

After joining us from Barcelona in 2011, the full back worked with a number of our academy strength and conditioning coaches to improve his pace and power.

One of those coaches was Mark Armitage, who left us in summer 2015 to join the FA, and has since played a key role in Huddersfield’s flying start to life in the Premier League.

“They’ve done really well actually,” Bellerin told Arsenal Player. “One of my former under-18s and under-21s conditioning coaches, Mark, is at Huddersfield now and he’s one of the people who helped me most with my physicality.

“In the gym, he helped me with the power in my legs and helped with my speed work too. He was one of the people who helped me improve the most, and I keep in contact with him a lot. I’m really happy for him that they’re doing so well in their first season in the Premier League.

“We need to go into [Wednesday’s] game with the right frame of mind. It’s a completely different type of game to the Tottenham match because derbies are always different, but we can’t think of Huddersfield as a team who have just been promoted.

“They’ve shown that they can get good results against top teams like Manchester United, so we just need to show we can perform in every single game. It will be a good test for us as well.”
