Ladies: Birmingham v Arsenal - Preview

Jemma Rose

Jemma Rose insists that the best is yet to come from Arsenal Ladies.

The Gunners returned to WSL action on Saturday after a mid-season break, kickstarting the second half of the campaign with a resounding 5-1 victory against Sunderland.

Next up is a trip to Birmingham City on Wednesday night, with Rose and her team-mates aware that a win against the Midlands outfit will see them leapfrog their opponents.

"We’re always more positive and more excited after a 5-1 win, but obviously there’s going to be an element of fatigue and we’ll need to rest players and recover properly"

“We’ve had a long time off so we’re really excited to get back into it and I think that the performance against Sunderland shows that,” Rose told Arsenal.com.

“I think we’ve got a lot more to offer and a lot more to show than what we did in the first half of the season.

“Now is the time we kick on from winning the FA Cup and putting in a good performance out in Seattle and then again against Sunderland.”

Arsenal and Birmingham played out a 0-0 draw earlier this season, but Rose is confident Pedro Martinez Losa’s side can go one step further this time and pick up the three points.

“We’re always more positive and more excited after a 5-1 win, but obviously there’s going to be an element of fatigue and we’ll need to rest players and recover properly,” she said.

“We need a bit of match fitness. Some people go away on international duty, some people don’t, some people spend time with their families and I think we needed that.

“We needed the time to switch off and have a bit of time at home.”
