Internationals: Ramsey reaches Wales milestone

Two of our first-team players were in international action on Friday evening.

Aaron Ramsey’s Wales travelled to Georgia while Spain hosted Albania, with both countries looking to qualify for next summer’s World Cup tournament in Russia.

Georgia 0-1 Wales

Aaron Ramsey won his 50th Wales cap and assisted Tom Lawrence’s winner in his country's 1-0 win at Georgia. Our midfielder had his side’s best chance to open the scoring in the first half when he raced onto Lawrence’s threaded ball, but shot wide of the right post. Then, four minutes after half time, they found the breakthrough.

This time Ramsey found Lawrence, and the Derby County forward lashed an unstoppable strike into the bottom corner. Wales have now won three consecutive qualifying matches, and face the Republic of Ireland in their Group D decider on Monday night.

Spain 3-0 Albania

Nacho Monreal was an unused substitute as Spain hit three past Albania in World Cup qualifying. Rodrigo opened the scoring for the hosts, with Isco and Thiago’s strikes before half-time wrapping up the win.

Spain have now qualified for the World Cup as top seeds in Group G, winning eight of their nine games and drawing the other. Their final qualifier takes place on Monday night away to Israel.
