Losa - How Quinn helped change the game

Twenty-five minutes and two goals. Louise Quinn's impact in Saturday's 4-2 win over Birmingham City was crucial.

Pedro Martinez Losa praised the Ireland international for her contribution and credited his young players for taking their chances after the fifth fixture of the Spring Series.

Here's what the manager had to say post-match:

on the result…
I think that Birmingham are playing really good football. They’re competitive and they know what they are doing. Merit to the group though, they came back, they reacted and good merit to Birmingham for the first half and the first minutes especially. They exploited perhaps our mental weakness at some points because our young players maybe take a little time to settle into the game. But from then on, I was very proud. We are growing as a team and we got the victory which is what we wanted.

on if he takes credit for the Quinn substitution…
Well, I think it’s more for Louise - not me. She scored the two goals. Nothing works without the players and this is all the players’ merit.

on Quinn’s performance…
She has a big size. It’s one of the strengths that she has and we wanted to change something in the game. We wanted three players in the back who can defend against direct play and use better the wide areas. Again, the determination of the players was most important.

on the Spring Series…
We want to compete. We are, at the moment, unbeaten. We showed a good reaction against Chelsea on Wednesday and we have a couple of things to learn from the result [against Birmingham] which are important for the team. We’ve been having a few injuries but the young ones have been given the opportunity and I think they are responding well. It’s a learning process for them, so there’s good competition for everyone to be ready for September.

on the schedule…
It’s difficult, it’s difficult because in one week we are not used to playing three games. In the next round of games we have Man City, Reading and Bristol in seven days. But on the positive side it’s a good opportunity to give chances to someone else and to see what they can do.
