Interview

'We're all under pressure, but good pressure'

Joe Willock made his first appearance of the season on Wednesday as we beat Leicester City to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

We spoke to the young midfielder after the game about competition for places, the progress the team is making and more.

This is what he told Arsenal.com:

on working hard for the win…

Yeah, to come here and win with such a young side and so many changes from the weekend is a hard thing to do. I thought we all did well, we all stuck together, stuck to our principles and got the win together.

on whether this win is a sign of our progress…

We’re not at the point where we want to be, but I feel like we’ve come so far over the last six to 12 months. I feel like we’re still progressing and learning from the manager and trying to buy into the principles that the manager has put in place.

on his need for gametime…

Obviously I haven’t played all season, so to come in and play is brilliant. I love playing for this team and I just want to give a good display and I think I did that tonight. I just want to keep on progressing.

on the mood in the camp…

Yeah, we’re all bubbly and trying to work hard to keep pushing each other. We’re trying to make the manager question who he should put in. We want to compete in training every day and in matches like today. We’re all fighting for our place to start and that puts all of us under pressure, it’s good pressure.
