‘It’s the first step on an amazing journey’

Arsenal Women

When the final whistle blew at Amex Stadium on Sunday, there was an overwhelming sense of joy in the Arsenal camp.

Our players sprinted into the middle of the pitch and our backroom staff celebrated together in front of our travelling fans, but our head coach was already thinking about the future.

“The first thing I thought was, ‘How can we make this better now? How can we improve on this?’” Joe Montemurro said.

“The Champions League is the big one and we want to be up there in the upper echelons of European football. We need to be at the best against the best, winning leagues every year. We need to improve because women’s football is improving.

“The game is growing at a rapid rate and we’ve got a World Cup coming around the corner. It’s great football and it’s great to watch. All these athletes, these players, at every club, deserve everything they get. They do an amazing job and today was an amazing showcase.

“We will improve both as a squad and in the way we play. We’ve got different challenges, bigger challenges next year and we’re just growing. This achievement is the first step to what I believe is going to be an amazing journey for the Arsenal Women team.”
