U21s: Arsenal v Wolves - Preview

Isaac Hayden in Capital One Cup action

Following an impressive 2013/14 campaign for Arsenal Under-21s, Isaac Hayden enjoyed a positive start to this season too.

The versatile 20-year-old captained Steve Gatting’s side to three victories in their opening four games and completed the 90 minutes of Arsenal’s Capital One Cup third-round tie against Southampton - but was then sidelined by injury.

Hayden came back to play 72 minutes in the under-21s’ 3-1 defeat against Bolton Wanderers in December, but the midfielder has not featured since.

However, Hayden has fought back to fitness again and is looking to end the campaign on a high, starting the young Gunners’ final league fixture against Wolves on Monday.

“My recovery from injury has been going well,” Hayden told the Arsenal Magazine. “I’m outside and have started training with the team again, alongside Chuba Akpom, Calum Chambers and Mikel Arteta. It was good to get out there with the lads.

“I am back in full training now and am hoping to play for the under-21s before the end of the season because it was the plan all along to be back by then.

“I would have liked to have got a few more games in but if I don’t have any problems hopefully I’ll be able to go away with England Under-20s in the summer for the Toulon Tournament.

“I haven’t been selected yet but if I can prove that I can play before I go, then hopefully I can get the shout.”

Arsenal Under-21s host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Meadow Park on Monday. Kick-off is at 7pm (UK time) and you can follow live updates on @Arsenal from 6.55pm.
