Pre-Match Report

U-19s: Basel v Arsenal - Preview

Reiss Nelson in action against Basel

THE STORY SO FAR

Andries Jonker leads his side into this game knowing that victory is a necessity to ensure qualification for the knockout stages.

We go into the final game of the group trailing Basel by three points, after accruing six points in our previous five games.

Paris Saint-Germain have already qualified, while Ludogorets have just one point - and cannot qualify.

In order to seal progression to the knockout stage, we must win by a scoreline which is not 1-0.

THE OPPOSITION

Basel welcome us to the LA Arena knowing that a draw will guarantee their progression, as will a 1-0 defeat.

The Swiss side come into the game off the back of a 4-0 win over Ludogorets in Sofia in their previous Youth League encounter.

The last time we played Basel, it ended 2-1 with Eray Cumart scoring a free-kick within his own half to open the scoring before Vlad Dragomir’s equaliser.

Neftali Manzambi’s late penalty won the game for the Swiss.

ONE TO WATCH

Hugo Keto will have to be on top of his game to give us the best chance of reaching the knockout stages.

Whether it is the Finn or Portuguese shot stopper Joao Virginia in goal for this one, their contribution will be a crucial factor in deciding our fate.
