Jonker - We didn’t create enough

By Lloyd Webb

Andries Jonker says Arsenal Under-19s did not create enough chances in their 2-1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.

The young Gunners succumbed to defeat at Meadow Park after Josip Brekalo and Amer Gojak put the visitors in control before substitute Stephy Mavididi pulled one back late on.

Jonker believes his side did not utilise their attacking players to their full potential despite impressing with some neat football.

“I think we did not translate our offensive quality into hurting our opponents,” he told Arsenal.com. “Obviously, there was some very nice actions, when we had the ball and some very combinations but in the end if you don’t hurt your opponent then it does not work.

"I thought the whole team looked ok but if you don’t hurt the opponent, you don’t win. But they managed to make some good chances. I don’t think we created. It was always the feeling that we could create a chance.

"We came quite close to the goal but it is still a lot of defenders to beat and that is where we didn’t manage it. It looks brilliant and skilful but there was nothing towards goal. We can create chances and we look very dangerous.”
